Hybrids
Finance for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles
Hybrids sit between petrol and electric, and so does the finance picture. The main thing worth getting right is which type of hybrid actually suits how you drive.
- Full, mild and plug-in
- New and used
- HP, PCP and loans

The three types, briefly
| Type | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Mild hybrid | Small motor assists the engine; cannot drive on electric alone | Anyone wanting modest efficiency gains |
| Full hybrid | Can drive short distances on electric; self-charging | Town and mixed driving |
| Plug-in hybrid | Larger battery, charged from mains, meaningful electric range | Short commutes with a charger at home |
What to check on a used hybrid
- Hybrid battery health, and whether any manufacturer warranty remains.
- Service history — hybrid systems have their own scheduled checks.
- On a plug-in, evidence it has actually been charged regularly.
- Brake condition, which is often better than on a comparable petrol car due to regenerative braking.
Choosing a finance product
All three products are available. Hybrid residual values have been more stable than full electric, so PCP guaranteed future values tend to be less conservative — which usually makes PCP more competitive on a hybrid than on an EV.
